COMPUTERS (Interests)

Lorraine does not get much of a chance to get at the computer. It isn't her idea of a fun activity anyway.  It's Hugh's interest and over the years he has gained plenty of experience using a lot of software, including Microsoft® applications - especially Word, PowerPoint, Internet programs, Graphics and Music.

Tutoring at the Allan Bean Centre Library (ABC), Burwood Hospital on a voluntary basis, provides Hugh with an opportunity to pass on some of the knowledge he has gained over the years and of course the enjoyment of socialising with others. The other benefit is you learn a lot too. People ask you things that you have never had to do before and in the process of researching for them, you learn.

In 2006 the New Zealand Spinal Trust (based at ABC) asked Hugh to assist with some redesigning of their website and regular updates. This meant learning html stuff which helped him with the design of this site.

I am no longer involved with the website as in 2015 the site was redeveloped by a design company and now has a totally fresh new design. Take a moment to have a look through and see the work the NZST does.

At the end of 2015, I volunteered to assist the Halswell Community Project keep their website up-to-date. Living in the area it is a great way to keep up with what is happening in the community. Click on Halswell Community Website to take a look at the site, especially if you live in the area.

Mid 2017 we redesigned this site and I added a few more features.  Having completed that I was wondering what to do with myself and I needed to retain the knowledge I learned.  I offered to assist with another community site Westmorland Residents Assn, that needed updated and redesigned and we got that up and running towards the end of the year.  Their webmaster looks after the site.

About that time Silverpeaks Country Music Club asked if I would takeover their site.  I had designed their original site in 2007 and handed it over a couple of years later.  With a change to CMS and the site having been changed considerably I redesigned it and got it up and running the end of 2017.

My own website was first designed in 'Front Page' then I redid it in html and this is my latest design using Joomla.
